A Pair of Classics

The end of the year (Dec. 31, 2011) issue of the Wine Spectator compiles a list of the wines rated “classic” by the magazine’s panel of tasters. We’re proud to have two wines make an appearance – the 2008 Ares and 2009 Zippy’s Block. Both received scores of 96 points from Harvey Steiman. His reviews of each wine follow.

2008 Ares:Dark and dense, but not heavy, offering a remarkable sense of freshness to its ripe cherry, raspberry, blackberry, tea leaf, dark chocolate and smoke flavors, which compete for attention and finish with astonishing depth. Shiraz. Drink now through 2020.”

2009 Zippy’s Block: “Smooth, polished and elegant, brimming with red and black cherry, raspberry and coffee flavors, lingering against beautifully buffed tannins on the supple, extensive finish. Enticing and graceful. Worthy of cellaring. Drink now through 2020.”
