Outstanding Two Hands, Twelftree Reviews In Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

robert parker wine advocateLed by the always amazing 2010 Bella’s Garden with a rating of 95 points, an impressive list of Two Hands Wines have received rave reviews in the latest issue of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate (Issue 205, Feb. 28, 2013). In addition, the Australia report includes stellar reviews for several of the new Twelftree Wines from Two Hands owner and founder Michael Twelftree.

Here the full list of 90+ rated wines as tasted by the Wine Advocate’s Singapore-based Australia expert, Master of Wine Lisa Perrotti-Brown:

2010 Aphrodite Cabernet Sauvignon – 93+ points
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Aphrodite has a pronounced creme de cassis, mulberries and dried plums nose with some underlying blackberry tart, allspice, pepper and lavender hints. Full, powerful and seductive in the mouth, it has a medium to firm level of fine tannins, nicely balanced acid and a very long finish. Drink it 2014 to 2025+.

2010 Ares Shiraz – 93 points
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Ares offers lovely dried fruits, plum pudding, mincemeat and Chinese five spice notes with an earthy/savory/yeast extract undercurrent. Very full bodied and chock-full of fruit and spice flavour layers, it has a medium to firm level of grainy tannins and crisp acid propping up the weighty fruit, finishing with commendable persistence. Drink this one 2014 to 2024+.

2010 Aerope Grenache – 92+ points points
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Aerope has fragrant aromas of mulberries, Ceylon tea and tobacco over a core of kirsch, dried red currants, potpourri and spice cake. Full bodied and generously fruited in the mouth, it has a nice burst of acid giving it lift and a medium level of very silky tannins supplying just enough texture, finishing long. Drink it now to 2022+.

Two Hands Single Vineyards

SVS2010 Barney’s Block Shiraz – 94+ points
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Barney’s Block Shiraz has a complex earthy/meaty, faintly floral nose with a good core of warm black berries, chocolate and anise. Big, full bodied and opulent in the mouth, it has a medium to firm level of rounded tannins and harmonious acidity with the spice layers and chocolate really coming through in the long and layered finish. Approachable now, it should drink best 2014 to 2024+.

2010 Coach House Block Shiraz– 94+ points
Coming from a Single Vineyard Greenock, the 2010 Coach House Shiraz has a deep purple-black color and intense dark fruit notes with hints of fruit cake, loam, cloves and chocolate. Densely packed with tight-knit berry preserve, spice and earth flavors, it has a solid structure of medium to firm finely grained tannins and lively acid lending support through the long multi-layered finish. Drink it 2014 to 2024+.

2010 Zippy’s Block Shiraz – 93 points
Coming from a single vineyard in Marananga, the 2010 Zippy’s Block Shiraz has a deep purple-black color and very intense black fruit compote nose with nuances of Szechuan pepper, charcoal, fertile loam, anise and sauteed Provence herbs. Very full bodied, big and richly fruited in the mouth, it has a medium level of velvety tannins and refreshing acid, finishing with great persistence. Approachable now, it should drink to 2024+.

Garden2010 Bella’s Garden – 95 points
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Bella’s Garden is profoundly scented of blackberries, warm black plums and mulberries with an underlying earthiness plus hints of cinnamon stick, licorice and toast. Rich, ripe and concentrated on the full bodied palate, it is beautifully poised in the mouth with a medium level very fine tannins and crisp acid line framing the dense flesh and going into a long multi-layered finish. Drink it 2014 to 2024+.

2010 Harry & Edward’s Garden– 92 points
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Harry & Edward’s Garden Shiraz has notes of lovely black fruits, fresh crushed blueberries, plums and licorice with suggestions of coffee and eucalyptus. Full bodied, taut and muscular in the mouth, it has a medium level of finely grained tannins and crisp acidity, finishing with good persistence. Drink this one 2014 to 2022+.

2010 Samantha’s Garden – 91+ points
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Samantha’s Garden Shiraz has a rather restrained/earthy nose with a muted core of black fruits, meat, olives and a touch of mint. Ripe, rich and seductive in the mouth, it gives more on the palate than on the nose at this youthful stage, with a medium level of rounded tannins and lively acid, finishing long. Drink it 2014 to 2021+

2010 Max’s Garden – 91+ points
Deep garnet-purple, the 2010 Max’s Garden Shiraz has lovely black fruits, plums and prunes with hints of chocolate, anise and eucalyptus. Very concentrated and bursting with vibrant fruit in the mouth, it has a medium to firm level of grainy tannins and very crisp acidity, finishing with very good length. Consider drinking it 2014 to 2021+.

2010 Lily’s Garden – 91+ points
Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Lily’s Garden Shiraz is scented of blueberry pie, black berries and mulberries with hints of chocolate, espresso and menthol. Full bodied with plenty of mouth-filling pure berry flavors, it has a medium level of very fine tannins and refreshing acid backbone to support, finishing long. Drink it now to 2020+.

2010 Sophie’s Garden – 90 points
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Sophie’s Garden Shiraz has minted chocolate and warm black cherries nose with suggestions of black raspberries and blueberries. Full bodied and concentrated in the mouth with youthful berry flavors, it has a medium level of grainy tannins and medium to high/balanced acid, finishing long. Drink it now to 2020+.

Picture2011 Yesterday’s Hero Grenache – 92 points
Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2011 Yesterday’s Hero Grenache has a beautiful white pepper nose and lavender nose with an undercurrent of red fruits and spice box. It offers mouth-filling and wonderfully bright fruit on the full bodied palate with a medium level of satiny tannins and lively acidity, finishing very long and peppery. Drink it now to 2020.

2010 For Love or Money Cane Cut Semillon – 91 points
Pale to medium straw colored, the 2010 For Love or Money Cane Cut Semillon has intense sultana and lemon tart aromas with a hint of acacia honey and a bit of muskiness. Full, concentrated, very sweet and with lovely viscosity, it has delicious toffee, creme caramel and nut flavors coming through in the long finish with just enough freshness to sustain. Drink it now to 2015+.

Twelftree Wines

SONY DSC2010 Blewitt Springs Shiraz – 92+ points
Very deep purple-black in color, the 2010 Twelftree Blewitt Springs Shiraz is intensely scented of black plums and red plum compote with nuances of crushed blueberries, menthol and chargrilled meat. Very big, bold and weighty in the mouth, the voluptuous flesh is structured with medium to firm grainy tannins and balanced acid, finishing long with some spiciness coming through. Drink this one now to 2019+.

2010 Blewitt Springs Grenache – 91 points
Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Twelftree Blewitt Springs Grenache has pronounced kirsch, red currants and mulberry aromas with touches of orange rind and Indian spices. Full bodied, opulently fruited and spicy in the mouth, it has a medium level of silky tannins and nicely balanced acid, finishing long. Drink it now to 2018+. Only 100 Cases were produced.

2010 Greenock Grenache Mataro – 90+ points
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Twelftree Greenock Grenache Mataro has an intense nose of kirsch and raspberry preserves with touches of loam, aged meat, potpourri and a whiff of chocolate. Full bodied and harmonious on the palate, it fills the mouth with warm berry and savory flavors with a medium level of soft tannins, lively acid to enliven and good long finish. Drink this one now to 2019+.

2010 Greenock Grenache – 90 points
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Twelftree Greenock Grenache has an intense blueberries and blackberries notes with an underlying dark chocolate and mint character. Full bodied and concentrated with a good backbone of acidity to lift the fruit, it has a medium level of velvety tannins and a slight dried fruit character in the long finish. Drink it now to 2018+. Only 100 cases were produced.
