Parker’s ‘Wine Advocate’ Reviews Two Hands, Twelftree

erp_logo_07The latest issue of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate includes coverage of South Australia, and once again the wines from Two Hands and Twelftree are proving to be among the best the region has to offer.

2011 Two Hands Shiraz Ares Barossa Valley
94+ points
Deep garnet-purple in color and intensely scented of blackberries and black plums with nuances of cedar, black pepper, Indian spices and loam, the medium to full-bodied 2011 Ares Shiraz has a solid core of youthful black fruit and exotic spice flavors with the oak standing out a little as do the firm, grainy tannins at this stage. It finishes with great length. Consider drinking it 2015 to 2024+.

2012 Two Hands Shiraz Bella’s Garden Barossa Valley

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Bella’s Garden Shiraz has a nose of blackberry preserves and warm cassis with hints of menthol, dark chocolate, cardamom and cedar. Full-bodied and richly fruited in the mouth, the abundant fruit is well matched by firm, rounded tannins and refreshing acid before finishing with great length. Drink it now to 2024+.

2012 Two Hands Shiraz Lily’s Garden McLaren Vale
93+ points
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Lily’s Garden is profusely scented of warm blueberries, black plums and blackcurrant cordial with an undercurrent of licorice, mocha and pepper. Very big, full-bodied and packed with ripe black fruit and spice flavors, it has a medium to firm backbone of velvety tannins and just enough acidity. It finishes long and with a nice savory edge. Drink it now to 2022+.

2012 Two Hands Shiraz Harry & Edward’s Garden Langhorne Creek

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Harry & Edward’s Garden Shiraz has an intensely perfumed nose of dried flowers, cinnamon stick, cloves and lavender intermingling with a core of crushed blackberries and creme de cassis. Very big, rich and full in the mouth, this wine-s spicy flesh is well framed by grainy tannins, uplifting acidity and a long finish. Drink it now to 2022+.

2012 Two Hands Shiraz Sophie’s Garden Padthaway

Deep garnet-purple in color the 2012 Sophie’s Garden Shiraz gives an earthy, meaty nose of loam, tree bark and peppered salami encasing a core of blackcurrant cordial and dried plums. Full-bodied and voluptuously fruited on the palate, a crisp line of acid juxtaposes the densely packed fruit and firm, grainy tannins to good effect. It finishes with very good persistence. Drink it now to 2022+.

2012 Two Hands Shiraz Samantha’s Garden Clare Valley

Deep garnet-purple in color and replete with aromas of Black Forest cake, black cherry conserve and blueberry pie plus hints of Provence herbs and earth, the full-bodied 2012 Samantha’s Garden has more of an earthy, savory character in the mouth that is accented by a crisp acid line and medium level, chewy tannins. It finishes with good persistence. Drink it now to 2020+.

Very deep purple-black color, the 2012 Angels’ Share Shiraz shows of a classic McLaren Vale nose of crushed blackberries, blueberry preserves and dark chocolate over touches of pepper, espresso and cinnamon stick. Very full-bodied and generously fruited in the mouth, the abundant flesh is well framed by medium to firm, velvety tannins and just enough acid, before finishing with great persistence and balance. Full-bodied with a great concentration of blackberry-laced mid palate fruit, it has a medium level of fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity. It finishes long. Drink it now to 2018+.

Deep garnet-purple in color the 2012 Fields of Joy Shiraz exudes a lovely, earthy perfume of tree bark, forest floor and dusty earth over a core of mulberries and warm black cherries plus a hint of lavender. Medium to full-bodied with tons of savory and earthy flavors backing up predominant red and black fruit flesh, it is all supported by medium levels of rounded tannins and lively acid through the long finish. 2012 Two Hands Grenache Shiraz Mataro Brave Faces Barossa Valley

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Brave Faces Grenache Mataro Shiraz opens to aromas of warm plums, kirsch and red currant jelly with hints of baking spices and milk chocolate. The medium-bodied frame is filled out with plenty of soft and cuddly red berry and spice flavors, a medium level of velvety tannins and enough acid to give lift though the long finish. 2012 Two Hands The Bull & The Bear Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec South Australia

A blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon and 39% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2012 The Bull and the Bear Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec entices with scents of freshly crushed blackcurrants, mulberries and dried Mediterranean herbs accented by a touch of pencil shavings. Full-bodied, rich and juicy in the mouth, the generous black fruit flavors are well supported by medium to firm, chewy tannins and lively acid before finishing long. Drink it now to 2018+.

2011 Twelftree Grenache Barossa Valley

Pale to medium garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Twelftree Grenache is scented of kirsch, raspberry coulis and Chinese five spice with a touch of Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied and wonderfully poised on the palate, it has a medium level of velvety tannins and refreshing acidity giving backbone to the generous fruit flavors throughout the long, peppery finish. 2012 Twelftree Shiraz McLaren Vale

Deep garnet-purple in color and beautifully perfumed with expressive, crushed blackberry and blueberry notes complemented by accents of cloves, vanilla and dark chocolate, the full-bodied 2012 Twelftree Shiraz gives plenty of ripe black fruits and a spicy touch of oak on the palate that are framed by a medium level of velvety tannins, balanced acid and a finish with very good persistence.
