vinousVinous Media is out with a big Australia report from Josh Raynolds, who says the country is making “some truly exciting wines that can rival the best in the world for their respective varieties and styles.” And among the top producers: Two Hands Wines. Here are some of Josh’s reviews:

94 pts Two Hands 2012 Aphrodite Cabernet Sauvignon
Inky ruby. Deeply pitched cassis, cherry liqueur and pipe tobacco aromas are lifted by a suave floral note and a hint of cracked pepper. Rich but vibrant as well, showing excellent focus and thrust to its dark berry and rose pastille flavors. Smoothly balances richness and vivacity and shows absolutely no rough edges. Finishes on a smoky note, with superb tenacity, lingering floral character and supple, fully absorbed tannins.

94 pts Two Hands 2012 Aerope Grenache
Ruby-red. High-pitched cherry, raspberry and candied rose scents pick up spice and mineral qualities with air. Supple, densely packed red fruit preserve and floral pastille flavors stain the palate, with juicy acidity and an exotic star anise nuance providing energy and lift. Sneaky, fine-grained tannins come in late and lend shape to an extremely long, focused, floral finish.

Smooth tannins sneak up steadily on a very long, sappy finish that leaves notes of blackberry preserves and vanilla behind.
