Great New Reviews for Lily’s, Bella’s and Ares
The new Wine Spectator Insider (Vol. 12, No. 16, April 20, 2016)—featuring “exciting wines recently discovered by our editors in their tastings”—highlights a trio of wines from Two Hands. Here are the reviews from MaryAnn Worobiec:
Shiraz McLaren Vale Lily’s Garden 2014
Espresso and toasted hazelnut notes are rich and thick, with mocha-
accented tannins that lend a velvety backdrop to the polished
blackberry, licorice and black cherry flavors, lingering generously
on the long finish. Drink now through 2030.—M.W.
Shiraz Barossa Valley Bella’s Garden 2014
Aromatic, with a touch of dried rose petal and white pepper up
front, giving way to a smooth and supple blend of black tea,
cherry and huckleberry flavors. Touches of vanilla and spice show
on the finish, with the tannins developing a slight chew on the finish.
Drink now through 2026.—M.W.
Shiraz Barossa Valley-McLaren Vale Ares 2013
A powerful, bold and broad wine, offering sandalwood, smoke
and black licorice aromas that weave in and out of the blackberry,
kirsch and plum flavors. For all of the presence, there’s also elegance
and refinement, with velvety tannins and a long, persistent
finish. Drink now through 2030. From Australia.—M.W.
